Redesign Pathe

← Back to the Portfolio

The cinema Pathe Schouwburg situated in the centre of Rotterdam is designed by Koen Velsen . It’s surrounded square is designed by West8 and represents the Rotterdam harbour. The redesign of a new facade highlights this relation by creating an interactive facade. When people visit a cinema there are three stages, first you buy a ticket, second you wait in the foyer and third you watch the movie. In this second stage the facade plays an important role. When people wait in the second stage in the foyer, the facade will change to the movement and activity of people. The facade will open to the square by pushing optic fibers aside. In these openings movies, trailers or time schedules can be projected.
